The Operations Specialist / Systems Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organisational values, enabling staff to perform their respective roles, and enabling Janison clients to consume IT services.

This role assists project teams during the planning phase, and assists project teams with technical issues identified during project delivery phases. These activities include technical analysis and design; and support of the IT Operations team in executing, testing and deploying solutions.

Given the critical nature of Janison’s IT systems, this role participates in the after-hours on-call roster.

This individual is accountable for the following systems:

  • Systems that provide services to the broader Janison business
  • Systems that provide services to Janison clients
  • Services that are provisioned to support Janison strategic and tactical goals

The Operations Specialist will be required to work on client systems that are protected by state and/or federal security mechanisms.  The individual must hold, or be willing/able to obtain, relevant security clearances as required.

Key duties & responsibilities

  • Engineering solutions to achieve business goals
  • Installing and configuring systems to support the delivery of IT Services
  • Contributing to and maintaining system standards
  • Performing routine system monitoring
  • Working with the latest Azure technologies to deliver a stable platform for our customers
  • Performing regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
  • Maintaining the Office365 environment, including user identities and email systems
  • Repairing and recovering from hardware or software failures and coordinating and communicating with impacted clients
  • Working with clients to resolve technical issues
  • Participating in projects as required – both internal and client-facing

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary or industry qualifications, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Advanced knowledge in the provisioning and configuration of Azure IaaS and PaaS components and general Azure services
  • Proven initiative and problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to create professional design and implementation documents
  • Advanced level of automation skills using PowerShell and other modern scripting technologies
  • Hold a current security clearance, or be able to obtain a security clearance
