Funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and provided by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) and Education Services Australia (ESA), the NAP-CC sample assessment tests Yr 6 and Yr 10 students’ skills and understanding in Civics and Citizenship.
In 2013, NAP-CC was trialled and delivered to students online for the first time using the Janison CLS platform. Approximately 12,000 students from 682 schools in all Australian states and territories took part. The assessment included an online test with multiple choice and open-ended questions and an online student questionnaire.
Extensive testing took place with all schools in preparation for the main test, including a field trial and a technology readiness test. To ensure all schools were able to participate, Janison developed an offline version of the test which was made available to schools on USB drives as a back-up delivery method.
NAP-CC program manager at ESA, Darrell Green, said the outcome of the trial was positive, “The online testing represented a significant milestone for national assessment in Australia, demonstrating both the effectiveness of online assessment as well as the readiness of many schools to participate via this mode of administration.”
“The success of this first national sample assessment conducted online has provided a springboard for the future of online assessment in Australian schools.”
